To Sam, Love Mom

My Service for Sam Schultz
By Mom (Nancy) Schultz

When I was thinking of what to do for Sam, I thought of the many things that he loves, i.e. Cops shows, singing, serving food at his cafes, etc. I considered doing some volunteer work for the police in Brea, or West Covina, or doing a drive-along in a police car. But when I called, they said to be approved I would have to complete a 6 month training. So I did 2 service projects instead:

  1. One of his high school friends, Jason Sneddon is in the Police Academy, and has been gone a lot from his family this past year. His wife Jenny is pregnant with their 3rd child, and would need help when the baby came. I went and picked up her 2 daughters after she came home from the hospital, and took them home for the day.
  2. During Sam’s high school years, he spent much time at the Brea Curtis Theater rehearsing and performing in the Youth Musical Programs, i.e. “The Wiz”, “Music Man”, “Oliver”, “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers”, and more. I called and asked to volunteer for one of the programs there. Even though I was very sick with the flu, I went there for a one man show about A Christmas Carol. I put on my vest, name tag, and helped hand out programs, usher people to their seats, and serve at the snack bar. The best reward was that I was able to watch the show for free!
